THE SECRET WEAPON MOST ARTISTS IGNORE

Performers have different strengths on stage – some tell amazing stories, others create immersive theatrics. But the most elusive performers are those who connect with us on a deep, genuine level.

A long time ago, a friend showed me a performance on youtube that would change me forever. I used to talk about how skilled this artist was, but I never talked about how I fell in love with him. How do you explain feeling so connected to someone you’ve only watched on a screen for four minutes?

Most performances I’d seen up until that point were your classic performances, full of stage presence, personality, and ✨pizazz✨. Things that would get an audience riled up on a Friday night after a 2 drink minimum.

But I’d never seen someone bear a kind of vulnerability and authenticity on stage that made you feel like you’ve known them intimately your whole life.

It felt unfiltered and raw, like showing up to someone’s house before they cleaned up for guests to arrive or watching someone cry uncontrollably on a packed subway.

What makes performers and performances like this so rare, is the same reason it’s so rare to meet someone who doesn’t wear a mask or have some kind of wall up.

Being able to perform with authenticity means you have to be able to access your own authenticity – a skill that most people aren’t even aware of.

Before you can even begin to connect with an audience, you have to first connect with yourself– and that’s what we’ll explore next week.

Until then,

💋 Mimi
